Possession: The possession of any amount of cannabis in Arizona is a felony that carries a minimum fine of $750. Repeat offenses and possession near a school increase sentences and fines, and reduce the chance of probation. Penalties also vary according to the quantity possessed. Less than 2lbs carries a minimum sentence of four months and a maximum of two years. 2 - 4 lbs carries a minimum sentence of six months and a maximum of two and a half years. Over 4lbs carries a minimum sentence of one year and a maximum of four. Sale: The sale of cannabis in Arizona is a felony and penalties vary according to the quantity possessed. Less than 2 lbs carries a minimum one year sentence and a maximum of four. The sale of 2 - 4 lbs carries a minimum sentence of two years and a maximum of nine. Over 4 lbs carries a minimum two year sentence and a maximum of twelve. Cultivation:  The cultivation of cannabis is a felony in Arizona and penalties vary according to the quantity grown. Medical Marijuana: In November 2010, Proposition 203 was approved by the slightest of margins (50.13%), removing criminal penalties for the use and possession of Marijuana by patients who have certification from their physician. The law took effect in April of 2011. Latest Legal News: An Arizona Legalization of Recreational Marijuana Amendment will not appear on the November 4, 2014 ballot as an initiated constitutional amendment, but will likely appear on the 2016 ballot instead, meaning any changes to legalisation laws in the state will likely be 2 years away.
