After nearly 18 months of anticipation, Canada have finally announced plans to legalize cannabis recreationally and medically in 2018. Justin Trudeau gained immense popularity from younger voters during his presidential campaign after promising to legalize cannabis if he was elected. In the 18 months following his election, many Canadians have been concerned at the relative silence on the proposal from the new prime minister. However, this week, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation announced that recreational cannabis will be legal nationwide on July 1, 2018. Under the plan, the government will control supply and licensing, while individual provinces will control how cannabis is priced and how it will be distributed and sold. While the news has been welcomed by the Canadian public, Justin Trudeau has warned that the current laws remain the same and has advised everyone to continue to abide by current cannabis laws until July 2018. What do you think about Canada's proposal to legalize cannabis in 2018? Have your say in the comments below.
