Sean Spicer Just Compared Cannabis to Opioid Addiction

Its safe to say that it has been a controversial, if not entertaining first 6 weeks in the White House for Donald Trump and his band of merry men. From Fake News to Fake Massacres, it seems as though every new policy or opinion shared from America's most important residence is generating serious debate. Last week, Sean Spicer a.k.a Melissa McCarthy faced the press once again, as the mouthpiece of the Trump administration and the great defender of its policies. While Spicer was quick to tell the press that he believed medical cannabis to be a positive thing for people in desperate need, he also compared recreational cannabis to opioid addiction. This statement caused concern in the cannabis community as to the future of legalization and the new governments stance on a plant loved by so many. In the briefing, Spicer stated, "There’s a big difference between that (medical marijuana) and recreational marijuana. I think that when you see the opioid addiction crisis blossoming in so many states around this country, the last thing we should be doing is encouraging people. There is still a federal law we need to abide by in terms of when it comes to recreational marijuana". The reaction to Spicer's comments have been met with wholesale negativity, not just from the cannabis community. - but from the general media, who have cited thousands of official scientific studies confirming that cannabis is significantly safer than opioids.
