10 Quick Questions with Heavyweight Seeds

We spoke to our Spanish friends at Heavyweight Seeds to discover more about their rapidly growing seedbank.

1. How was Heavyweight Seeds born?

We started in mid-2008 , when visiting a grower who obtained incredible results. We contacted him and we bought clones of the mother plants used for their crops to Spain. The results were amazing. The result of the cross between them was even better , and to preserve these special phenotypes more efficiently, decided to create our own gene pool . It took about a year taking the decision to market our product and create a brand, which has become Heavyweight Seeds.

2. Why was Heavyweight Seeds created. What is the aim of the company?

Our aim is to find the best strain ever, with the highest income of resin. We believe that there is much talk about cannabinoids levels present in a plant and they all forget that what matters are the returns of resin. In other words , if a strain has 24% of THC it does not mean that it will be more powerful than another with 15 %. If the first is a return of 2% and the second 20% obviously you will find more THC in the second specimen. These levels are only an indicator of proportion, not quantity. Our genetics produce a return in resin between 10% and 20 % grown under normal conditions with generic nutrients.

3. What makes your seeds different?

Many companies have settled over time and do not pay the necessary attention to the breeding process. They add new products to their catalogues only to look bigger, without testing it properly. The philosophy of our bank is simple. We only breed strains with high production (flowers and resin) and strong effects . If a grower wants a product of the highest quality and bountiful crops, they just have to choose their favourite strain from the Heavyweight Seeds range.

4. What is your most popular strain?

That’s hard to say, as we have many popular strains. From our autoflowering strains we would mention the 2Fast 2Vast, which now is maybe the most popular autoflowering strain on the market. And regarding photoperiod strains, the sales are divided between Dream Machine, Fruit Punch and Strawberry Cake.

5. What unique strain would you recommend people try from your collection?

We recommend to try our K.O. Kush, purely because it is very simple to grow. It doesn’t need much effort, the crop is totally satisfying and the effects are pure indica.

6. If you could say why people should by from Heavyweight Seeds in one sentence, what would that sentence be?

That sentence can be reduced to a word: Resin.

7. Any special/secret cultivation tips you can let our readers know about?

When we breed, we use extreme germination methods. We put the seeds in places where humidity and temperature variables are adaptable, forcing them to germinate in poor conditions, then we work with the plants that have passed the first stage. This selection process guarantees that the individuals we work with will produce seeds that will germinate anywhere. After placing the selected seeds in the vegetative chamber, where they will be submitted to a process of growth and selection and we take cuttings of each individual, and place them in the flowering chamber. After discarding the males, we observe the different phenotypes (intermodal distance, resin, leaves...) under the supervision of our geneticists colleagues who collaborate with our breeders. After this process, which can last about 5 months, we get what we know as a mother plant, which we use to fine cross with herself or with another mother plant to restart the cycle selection.

8. Do you have any brand new strains soon to be released?

We are always working on new strains, our installations are running 24/7 trying to find the ultimate strain, and we will do it.

9. What does the future hold for Heavyweight Seeds?

The future is something that nobody expects, but the fact is that Heavyweight Seeds is growing very fast and reaching more and more countries.
