Canadians Now Consume Nearly As Much Cannabis As Wine

Despite remaining an illegal substance, Canadians are already consuming as much cannabis as they are wine, according to a new report. The federal statistics agency in Canada estimated that in 2015, 4.9 million citizens consumed cannabis in some form, equating to about C$6.2 billion worth of revenue. These startling figures show that the cannabis industry is almost as illustrious as the win industry, which made around C$7 million in the same year. In 2018, experts are predicting that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's promise to legalize recreational cannabis in the country will see the market soar well above the aforementioned wine industry and even the popular beer industry, which generates around C$9.2 million in annual revenue.
