PTSD, or Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is an anxiety-related disorder, caused by very stressful or disturbing events. PTSD is often triggered though nightmares, flashbacks or thoughts of a distressing event in a sufferers past. Guilt, Panic and Isolation are some of the key symptoms of PTSD, which often rears its head most frequently in retired soldiers.
There have been various studies on the effect of cannabis on PTSD and its related symptoms.
Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, often cited as the godfather of cannabis published a study which revealed that the cannabinoid system is intrinsically related to memory, specifically memory extinction.
While in 2016, a report published by Frontiers in Pharmacology suggested that CBD reduces leared fear in different ways. Firstly, by decreasing fear expression acutely and secondly by disrupting memory reconsolidation.
