Tirah is sourced from the Tirah Valley, part of the old Northwest Frontier Province bordering Pakistan and Afghanistan, at a latitude of 33° north. This is a traditional Hindu Kush land-race plant which, although an indica, displays a range of pheno-types from typically short, broad -leaved plants to much more sativa-leaning types with longer, thinner leaves in this part of the world. This region was formerly known as the Tribal Agencies and included Khyber, Orakzai and Kurram. The inhabitants are ethnic Afghans (Pashtun) and the region lay outside the direct rule of the Pakistani government and developed a reputation for lawlessness. Given this fact and the location it is little surprise that it developed into a centre for cultivatiing cannabis becoming famous for high quality dry-sieved hashish known as Tirah grda.
The variation in these plants gives rise to a height difference from 100 cm to 400 cm. tall depending on phenotype. They mature fairly early and will be ready for harvest north of the equator in late September through the month of October. They are versatile plants which can be grown indoors, outdoors or in a green house environment. Plants produce a lot of resin which is used locally for making dry-sift hashish. The effect is potent and narcotic
Thescents and flavours are complex and include coffee, hashish, hazelnut, citrus, Kush and a musky earthiness.
Buy Tirah seeds for your collection before western hybrid strains start to infiltrate as they have done in other parts of the sub-continent.
