Muang Sing Lao Highland Tribe is a jungle landrace sativa that is grown by farmers of the Akha tribal group. It originates from Muang Sing in the border regions of northern Laos, Myanmar (Burma) and China at a latitude of 19°N. This is an incredibly vigorous variety that can withstand hot and temperate climates as well as dry and wet conditions giving excellent protection against attacks of mould. For a sub-tropical sativa it has a relatively fast flowering time.
Lao Highland Tribe is both colourful and richly-flavoured. Its vigour is such that training will be needed (e.g. SCRoG) to control height if growing indoors, and quite possibly outdoors as well depending on location and garden security. Its leaves are less narrow than most other tropical sativa varieties and trichomes are large, and this could indicate some indica influence in it past. Indoor flowering begins at around 3 weeks taking between 13 - 16 weeks to complete. Outdoor-grown plants will be ready in November - December in northern latitudes. These plants are adapted to poor quality soils therefore needing only very light feeding during flowering. Yields in both environments are medium in size.
An assortment of phenotypes will be grown out; these include many that display light purple shades as maturity approaches as well as green ones. Purple phenos. tend to have a deep berry scent while the green ones are mostly floral/vanilla with a few being more reminiscent of haze and citrus. Flavours are a mix of fruity, soapy and woody. The effect varies in potency from medium to high with an energetic onset that evolves into a calmer and more relaxed state.
The original seeds grown out from which selections were made to reduce hermaphroditism were collected by the famous collector and breeder Bodhi in 2014.
