Balkh Hashplant landrace hails from Balkh Province, at latitude 36° N, located immediately to the east of Jowzjan Province. Balkh Hashplant is a legendary variety used for hundreds of years to make very tasty hashish. This region is famed for hash production with famous names such as Milk of Mazar produced here. Plants represent wide genetic diversity and have an assortment of cannabinoid profiles; some phenotypes have high THC, others high CBD and still more with roughly equal proportions of both cannabinoids. As a result most plants have broad leaves while some are narrow-leaved.
Balkh Hashplant is easy to cultivate as long as relative humidity is low during flowering to prevent mould in the buds, the plants being able to tolerate both hot and cold conditions. Selection has weeded-out hermaphroditic traits and other weaknesses as well to make indoor cultivation more straightforward. Indoors, flowering takes between 9 - 11 weeks, the faster phenotypes giving average yields while the longer flowering ones can be very high yielders.
In general this is a low-maintenance strain although a moderate feeder requiring more nutrients than many other landraces Approximately 10% of plants turn black during flowering becoming completely black at maturity. Flavours of fruit (lime), earth and burnt rubber are predominant. The effect varies from mild to powerful and is relaxing, de-stressing and insightful, quite different to many modern indica hybrid strains with their couchlock tendencies.
