The History of the Trainwreck Strain

A topnotch favorite amongst recreational and medical users, Trainwreck is one of the most potent cannabis strains whose genetics are made up of Mexican Sativa, Thai Sativa and Afghani Indica making it a Sativa-dominant Hybrid.

Its origins are a bit ill-defined, but word is, a couple of brothers from California harvested their crops early due to a train wreck that had occurred nearby and did not want the emergency crew to stumble unexpectedly upon their produce. Yet, most can agree that Trainwreck first appeared perhaps in the city of Arcata or Humbuldt County, better known as the Emerald Triangle, the largest cannabis-producing region not only in Northern California, but in the United States as well. There is also much debate over when the strain originated, arguing that it emerged on the scene sometime between the 60’s and the 80’s.

Undoubtedly powerful in all aspects, Trainwreck carries a pungent smell that can be defined as a sweet lemony, spicy pine aroma. It spawns uniquely thin leaves and tightly compacted buds that can be described as light green with heaps of orange pistils, or hairs, concealed in crystals with much resin production. Outdoor flowers are ready to harvest in early October, while indoor plants are prepared eight weeks into flowering. Its taste is practically precisely like its smell, leaving a lingering sweet, menthol flavor in the mouth.

Being almost completely Sativa, Trainwreck is a great strain for daytime smoking with many users noting that they are able to get daily chores or several tasks done in the day and even finding joy in doing it when they typically would not. Its a cerebral high that gives one a clear head and creates a euphoric feeling that travels through the mind, awakening the creative beast within. Its THC content is remarkably high with an average of about 18%, yet buds that are 20% and higher are likely as well with a high lasting for about two and a half hours to three hours.

For inexperienced or unsuspecting users, though, this strain may be a bit much to handle. Trainwreck is known to stimulate feelings of bliss, but ingesting too much of it or simply not being accustomed to its potency, can leave one feeling incapacitated or “couch-locked” for several hours. Some users even experience a sense of confusion and have claimed to not be able to find their car in the parking lot or have lost their way in their own homes.

Considering the pros and cons of this strain, Trainwreck is a patient favorite and reigns as one of the most widely used, and medically proven, strains that brings great relief to medical marijuana patients who experience severe stress levels; nausea, insomnia; depression; migraines; anxiety; ADD/ADHD, cramps associated with PMS, RLS, and DDD; and chronic pains. The strain also makes good for relieving muscle tension, especially after exercising or any athletic sport. It helps relaxes the body’s muscles and cool down when they begin to stiffen up.

The effects of Trainwreck are cerebral with enough Indica added into the gene pool to provide a good amount of pain relief. However, if you are going to ride on this train, hop aboard with caution or you might find yourself forgetting why you were reading this article in the first place.
