Growing Together: Blue Dream Strain Review

When I was asked if I had space in my garden to grow Seedsman Blue Dream strain I immediately said yes!! The aroma and flavour of this strain is outstanding!

Blue Dream is the offspring of Blueberry Ice crossed with a special U.S. Haze cut, resulting in a 70% sativa strain that is easy to grow and suitable for beginners and professionals alike.

The Grow Site

It is winter here in Canada, so I grew these plants in my house using a grow tent. The tent was equipped with LED lights, inline fans and a few oscillating fans for ventilation and air circulation. I started off growing them in a veg tent with a lower ceiling and moved them to a taller tent for bloom. I used a Sensorpush to gauge my temperature and humidity in the tents.

The Grow

The two seeds were germinated using a 3 step method. First, the seeds are soaked in water for 24 hours. They were then transferred to a damp paper towel for 24 hours and finally the tap root was planted in my medium of choice, Pro Mix HP, in one gallon pots.

Blue Dream were flowered in 5 gallon plastic pots. They were hand watered and fed Remo Nutrients.

The full grow cycle took 14 weeks: 5 weeks of veg and 9 weeks flowering. Vegetation light cycle was 18 on : 6 off, and flowering cycle was 12 on : 12 off.

This was a fairly simple grow, easy to manage for a personal crop.

Plant description

This plant grew fairly tall – 4.5 to 5.5 feet, but started off short and wide. One plant clearly progressed quicker than the other. Once transplanted they really began to stretch! Developing big, long fingered fan leaves and some double serrations. They grew dark green with an almost blue green edging to the leaves.

This is a particularly fragrant strain. Early in veg, the cheesy, sweet grape and blueberry terps are overwhelming!

In flower they stretched well into week three. Producing big round pom-pom shaped flowers swelling into big dense flowers covered in trichomes. I stripped the fan leaves at week three of bloom, and the remaining leaves faded to a yellow with purple and blue rails.

As the buds increased in weight the branches needed some support around week 7 of flower. I used Yoyo’s tied to the ceiling to support the branches. As this is a fairly tall plant, you will need to have a tall tent or manage the space accordingly.

Harvesting, drying and curing

One plant finished one week before the other. I harvested the plants on a day when the soil was nearly dry. I cut the stalk at it’s base and hung them upside-down, using a grow tent as a drying space to manage humidity, light and temperature. The rather large Blue Dream plants took 15 days to dry well, remaining very sticky.

The buds produced an abundance of trichomes, the sugar leaves less and they produced some beautiful purple/blue rails.

This is not a bushy plant making it easy to trim. I dry trimmed and placed my buds in amber jars. I burped the jars daily for 10 days storing the jars in a cool dry area for 3 weeks to cure.

Smell and Effects

The moment you break into a bud, you know you are going to be smoking something special! The intense aroma of this bud is mind blowing! The cheesy berry flavour is smooth, and mouth-watering. No need for flavoured papers or cones!

This is a comforting strain, its body high makes it a perfect strain to smoke at the end of the day, when you are ready to call it a night.

Blue Dream produces a balanced high characterised by full body relaxation with gentle cerebral invigoration. It may be helpful for those who suffer with stress, anxiety, depression, pain and insomnia.
