5 Best Bands to Listen to When High

Music is perhaps the most expressive, emotion-filled art form that exists and is enjoyed by everybody around the globe. It is often far too easy to become lost in a melody, entranced by a refrain or mesmerised by a vocal performance. There is also perhaps no better time to open your mind up to all kinds of musical styles than when you are high. Not only do you approach music from a far more open perspective but you are also likely to pick up on elements of songs that you hadn’t heard before. So, to give you some ideas of what music to enjoy during your next smoke, we have compiled a list of the 5 of the best bands to listen to when high.

We would love to hear your ideas too, so list your favourite bands to listen to while high in the comments section below.

1.Sigur Ros

The ethereal sounds of one of Iceland’s most successful exports, Sigur Ros have one of the most distinct sounds in the music industry. With haunting falsetto vocals combined with floating instrumental sounds, the combination of minimalist and classical influences make Sigur Ros the perfect band to get high too.

And now, believe it or not, the band have joined the likes of Snoop Dogg and Willie Nelson in launching their own brand of edibles inspired by the naive berries of Iceland!

Recommended Tracks: Staralfur, Hoppipolla, Svefn-g-englar

2. Tool

While their most well-known song “Sober” was released way back in 1993, Tool didn’t truly come into their own until the turn of the millennium, when their generic rock sound transformed into a transcendent sound that pieced together visual artistry, complex musical pieces and personal evolution.

Their style has almost transcended any current style and they sit on their own, high above the current repetitive music of popular culture. Their songs are often tough to listen to but when high, you are transported through their songs like a roller-coaster, hearing and feeling new elements with every listen.

Recommended Tracks: Schism, Vicarious, Lateralus

3. Pink Floyd

Hitting their peak during the mid-1970’s, Pink Floyd were one of the driving forces behind the progressive and psychadelic rock movement and have since become one of the most popular and influential bands of all time.

While many would cite their best-selling album Dark Side of the Moon as one of the most transformative collection of songs to listen to when high, the bands entire discography features pieces of music that are sure to transport you to another world when you are enjoying a smoke.

Recommended Tracks: One of these Days, Interstellar Overdrive, The Great Gig in the Sky

4. The Beatles

Arguably considered the greatest band of all time, The Beatles initially hit popularity through pop-rock ditties in the early 1960’s. This firmly established Beatlemania across the world and John Lennon and Paul McCartney as icons of the era.

However, their most psychedelic, transformative work came in the late 1960’s and into the 70’s, when a succession of experimental albums felt like truly groundbreaking masterpieces. Their albums Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, The White Album and Yellow Submarine reach drug-induced musical psychedelia the likes of which had never been heard before, especially from such a mainstream band.

Recommended Tracks: A Day in the Life, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Strawberry Fields Forever

5. Tenacious D

While this comedy-musical duo can not be placed in the same talent category as the aforementioned band, the irresistible charm of these two middle-aged, overweight musicians gives them the final spot on this list.

However, it is not the psychedelic, ethereal nature of their music which makes Tenacious D a great band to listen to while high. Instead it is the hilarity and bizarre nature of their lyrics combined with their pretty impressive talents as vocalists and musicians. From threesomes and penis references to the Devil, there is nothing that Tenacious D won’t sing about and it makes for pure perfection when high.

Recommended Tracks: Tribute, Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown), Double Team
