Silica gel is a granular, porous form of silica made synthetically from sodium silicate. Despite the name, silica gel is a solid. It is a popular dessicant used in many industries world wide.These Silica Gel bags are porous, helping to let the gel reduce moisture levels in the surrounding area or to help maintain already low humidity levels. This ensures that humidity levels are kept in a more or less constant state reducing the chances of seeds deteriorating or germinating due to excessive moisture.It is recommended by experts that the equal weights of silica gel and seeds are used. This means one bag will help preserve around 50 cannabis seeds.We suggest you do not open these bags but keep them in the bottom of our seed storage jars, with the seeds inside our aluminium zip-lock bags.Silica Gel can be reused once dried out after heating in the oven on a gentle heat for an hour or two.For more information on seed preservation please see our seed storage pages.
