On the 8th of June 2005, with the aim of furthering the informational side of our website I ventured to a cannabis training day titled “Gone to Pot: Young People and Cannabis”. The day was organised by HIT and was intended on dispelling myths and developing knowledge surrounding cannabis to social workers and those involved with cannabis users on a professional basis.
The day was run by Alan Matthews an honest and affable social worker from Liverpool. It was refreshing to have someone who works closely with the government, as well as the general public being so honest about their previous drugs use – something our politicians could learn a lot from I feel. He confirmed our company position that honesty in drug use and accurate information is essential in the harm minimisation solution.
The training day started, inevitably, with everyone introducing themselves, talking about where they worked and why they were there. Surrounded by a group of young social workers, some with more knowledge of drugs than others but all with impressive dedication to their worthwhile jobs, I felt a little out of place. After a short laugh at my expense when I introduced myself and explained about Seedsman and our aims and missions everyone was very friendly and interested in my point of view and knowledge.
